Welcome!

    Hi! I’m Marie.
Welcome to the digital version of our little farm,
The Lazy W.
I’m so very glad you’re here.

This is me at Savory Spice Shop, one of my must-stops when I am in OKC. We love them so much!

My husband and I have lived on these nine acres in central Oklahoma since the autumn of 2007. We call it a “hobby farm” because we enjoy it, it is all a massive labor of love, and it is vastly more expensive than it is productive. All good criteria for the best hobbies, right? We have lots of gardens and even more animals, mostly rescues and happy adoptions. This all keeps our projects list long and perpetually unfinished.

Our farm menagerie currently includes 2 horses and a llama, lots of chickens and geese and two fancy ducks, a macaw, some barn cats, and the world’s finest and most perfect German Shepherd ever born. Oh and honeybees! We call them the Lazy W Honeymakers.

Once upon a time we were lucky enough to share our home with a true blue Oklahoma bison named Chunk-hi. He is gone now, but you can read lots of stories about him on this blog.

Chunk-Hi and Dusty, not an odd couple at all. They are best buds. A farmyard bromance. Bruthas from othha muthas. I’ll stop now, you get the idea.

We are madly in love with each other and with this somewhat complicated, always surprising life we lead. We are passionate about friends and family, hearth and home, love and laughter. I like to think that most days we play as hard as we work. Joy has been the antidote to every hardness in life.

My husband is known here as “Handsome” or “BW.” He works way too hard for a top-secret government agency which I’m not allowed to mention. I think he might be an X-men. Or Batman. Or Speedracer. After office hours he does the heavy lifting around here and keeps me full of romance. If something needs building or repairing, he does it. And he does it with creativity and zeal. He also indulges my voracious appetite for color and art. He is a dream come true.

I believe in the power of joy-seeking both to overcome trauma and to generally enrich your life. I believe in the importance of perfect coffee and excellent food and in sharing these with people you love. And I believe in surrounding yourself with great big stacks of amazing books. All kinds of books!

Though I discovered running late in life and am not any sort of athlete worth talking about, I do love to run, and I love to talk about the science of running and nutrition and yoga, and all the magical ways these efforts can improve our lives. At this writing, I am training for my third full marathon with the goal of qualifying for Boston.

We often host full moon yoga nights at the farm. Local? Join us!

Since I run mostly here at the farm, in our red dirt and sand back field, these cute shoes aren't so white anymore.

One of my biggest curiosities in life is what inspires people, what binds people together, and how we figure it all out. You’ll read these thoughts and ponderings in nearly every post. I cannot resist the why behind our choices and the nourishment we seek in our habits. My hope is to start lots of rich, meaningful conversations with you. How wonderful to understand people better. Please chime in!

We have the prettiest sunsets here in Oklahoma, and I feel so blessed to soak them up right over our pond.

The Lazy W is our little country home where we live a life we always dreamed of, endure heartaches we never expected, and gobble up an abundance of love. Lessons learned, dreams fulfilled, and adventures shared. Thank you for following along and sharing your heart!

XOXOXOXO
