Friday 5 at the Farm: Accidental Collecting

April 11, 2014

You guys. I have some pretty serious posts in draft, being edited by my ten-four-good-buddy M and polished by Love because it is sensitive material.

But today is also Friday. Handsome and I have worked ourselves down to the marrow this week and have one more day of such exertion on the books before launching a drop-dead gorgeous Oklahoma weekend and some equally intense romancing.

So before those serious posts come your way, how about a quick Friday 5? Here are five accidental collections we have made at the farm.

  1. Rust old milk cans
  2. Heavy cotton, mid-century tablecloths
  3. Books
  4. Lawn furniture that does not match but is awesome
  5. Llamas

And you know what else? I have a feeling we will soon be adding a fourth. Place your bets here. Again. Just like last spring.

What have you accidentally collected?

Work hard today, friends. And please have yourself an amazing weekend! Tune in soon for stories from my father in law about the Oklahoma City Bombing, the reason behind running the marathon.

I almost included cars. But then “accident” would be a lie,now wouldn’t it? ; )

I really never thought of myself as a collector until a visitor who was at my house for the first time said “I love your collection of collections.” What? As I looked around and noted the kitchen full of roosters (it’s a Portugese symbol of good luck), the dragons in every room (usually facing off with rooster to rep my husband and me – our ‘estate’ is called Dragonroost), a wall full of wooden trivets my husband has made, another wall with painted iron pieces, books stacked in several rooms, pottery pitchers lining several shelves – and she couldn’t even see the rocking horses that were packed away – I realized maybe I WAS a bit of a collector. Definitely unintended!

First off, I am pretty sure that visitor was calling you a hoarder. LOL I mean maybe, Shel. That is a possibility. haha
But I LOOOVE that your estate is called “Dragonroost.” Seriously, how wonderful is that! Would like to see photos of your collection of collections. xoxo
      Thanks for stopping in!

China! A friend was by the other day and commented on how much storage I had in the kitchen. I laughed when I told her that my dishes took up the kitchen cupboards, 2 sideboards, a China cabinet and some of the pantry. And I just bought a set of Franciscan dessert plates and bowls. You can never have enough!

Oh I am convinced you have the most gorgeous china collection, Heather. Do you insist on them matching? What’s your style? Off to google “Franciscan.” hugs!! xo

Sponges, body lotion, and bottles of olive oil. I need to keep better track of what we have in the cupboards around here before I make shopping lists. Sheesh.

Sponges? As in, kitchen sponges, or like the natural sea sponges, bath-spa style?
You & me both on watching the cupboards more closely. It’s a discipline for sure.
